As a parent, you always want to do everything you can to help your child. If your teen is struggling with mental health, there are many different resources you can use or direct them to. Working with your teen to use these resources can better their mental health and show them that you care and are there to support them.

New Hobbies

Finding new hobbies to do can really make a difference in your teen’s mental health. Hobbies can give them goals to work toward and give them something enjoyable to look forward to. There are many hobbies your teen can explore. Music is an excellent hobby to pursue. Listening to music can be very relaxing and stimulating. Playing music, such as singing or playing an instrument, can help improve brain function and focus. It also provides a sense of accomplishment. Another great hobby to try is gardening. This helps your teen to spend more time outside. Being in nature is calming and spending time in the sun helps them absorb more vitamin D which helps to boost mood. Therapy can be more helpful when the whole family is involved at some stages. Having support from the family can be very beneficial to your teen and it can encourage them to take steps on their own or have more confidence in the treatment they are receiving. 

Mindfulness and Meditation

Practicing mindfulness is a great way to work through mental health struggles. Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and mindful of the world around you. Through mindfulness, you can learn to focus your mind, be aware of your body, and be more cognizant of your surroundings. Your teen can access many apps and online resources that can guide them through breathing exercises or meditation that can help them practice mindfulness. Doing so can help them address the symptoms of mental illness.
